My wife and I shared the Kapok Tree experience for the first time in 1974 when we were married and in 1975 for our first anniversity. It was the most beautiful setting for our time. We moved shortly thereafter, but returned in 1992 when our son was stationed in Orlando, only to find the Inn closed down. The thing I missed most was the Planter Punch served there! Boy, was it good!

I worked as a waitress @ the Kapok Tree in Clearwater in the fall of 1973. A friend and I went to Clearwater to live a few months and both found work at the great restaurant. We only had one car, but with 120+ waitresses on the floor each evening, it was easy to work the same schedule. The senior waitresses worked stations in the Great Ballroom, but new girls filled in wherever they were needed and got to move around to the various dining rooms. Everyone was served out of one large kitchen and it was amazing to see the waitresses line-up with carts and quickly pass through; gathing the family-style side dishes and the entrees as shown on the ticket. Each cart was checked to the ticket to be sure the waitress got what was ordered at the entrance. Since we only worked 4-9 pm on weeknights, it was a fun place for all the young singles who worked there. We could go to the beach all day; shower and work a few hours and be off early enough to go out to clubs if we wanted. Girls from all over the east coast worked as waitresses and becoming a waitress made you part of the Kapok family. Great memories !

My family lived in the suburbs of Washington, DC and every year we would visit a Christmas tree farm near Frederick , MD and go to dinner at the Peter Pan Inn in Urbana. My great Aunt was retired at the Odd Fellows Home for many years and we would go to dinner after visiting her. I have so many fond memories of strolling the grounds and admiring the peacocks, ponds and statutes. In 1972 we headed to FL so my parents could work at Democratic Nat'l Convention in Miami. We also visited Disney World and went to Clearwater to have dinner at the Kapok Tree Inn. Those days are gone, but not forgotten.

Visited the Clearwater Kapok Tree Restaurant in the late 70's with our children. It was an enchanting place not only pleasing to our appetites but filling our eyes with many magical visions. Especially remembering the wonderment and excitement in our children's eyes for each room or area we walked through.

I came to hear about The Kapok Tree because my great grandparents came there years ago before my great grandpa passed away. My great grandma (who is still alive and full of spunk at age 91) passed her charm bracelet on to me with a charm from each of the places they traveled together. On this bracelet was the Kapok Tree, so I googled it to find out more about it and was so sad that once I saw how beautiful and unique the inn used to be that it is now closed. I would've loved to come see it as it was and enjoy a piece of history that included my great grandparents.

A date took me to eat at the Kapok Tree in the late 1970's. The food and decor were to die for! I returned several times after that date. I'll always have a tender spot in my heart for the restaurant.

I remember going to the Kapok tree as a little girl in the 60's and early 70's. We would make the trip to Clearwater every spring break and stay at the Sea Shell Hotel. Kapok Tree was a must visit every time. Once of the last visits I made was in 1979 with my Mother during a trip to Florida. She loved all the decor and european feel and it inspired decoration in her home of grape vines and such. Thank you for putting up this site and bring back wonderful memores. My mother recently passed and this made me smile!

I remember eating at the Kapok Tree as a kid, when the whole family went to Clearwater on vacation. We'd get all dressed up (as that is what we did in those days) for dinner. The only food I really remember are the corn fritters. They were so good! The gardens were awesome. I think I'll look up my old photo albums with pictures and reminisce some more about the place. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

My family lived in Tampa, Florida from 1963 to 1967. Going to the Kapok Tree restaurant was a "special event" that only happened a few times. But I always remembered it because of that huge tree. It's too bad that Time takes its inevitable toll on our childhood memories, but it's nice that you've created this site.

I went on line today to see if the Kapok Tree resturant was still open. My Husband and I went there on our Honeymoon. We are planning a trip to Florida now and would have loved to carry our family there. We were married in the early 80's. We have been married for 27 years. The nite that we were there , there was a couple celebrating there 60th wedding anniversary, We asked there advise on how to make our marriage work and last- Their advise was as follows. "lots of hugs & kisses" its simple advise but we took it to heart and it has always worked for us. Sorry I won't be able to carry my childern there to eat.
