I remember eating at the Kapok Tree as a kid, when the whole family went to Clearwater on vacation. We'd get all dressed up (as that is what we did in those days) for dinner. The only food I really remember are the corn fritters. They were so good! The gardens were awesome. I think I'll look up my old photo albums with pictures and reminisce some more about the place. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

My family lived in Tampa, Florida from 1963 to 1967. Going to the Kapok Tree restaurant was a "special event" that only happened a few times. But I always remembered it because of that huge tree. It's too bad that Time takes its inevitable toll on our childhood memories, but it's nice that you've created this site.

I went on line today to see if the Kapok Tree resturant was still open. My Husband and I went there on our Honeymoon. We are planning a trip to Florida now and would have loved to carry our family there. We were married in the early 80's. We have been married for 27 years. The nite that we were there , there was a couple celebrating there 60th wedding anniversary, We asked there advise on how to make our marriage work and last- Their advise was as follows. "lots of hugs & kisses" its simple advise but we took it to heart and it has always worked for us. Sorry I won't be able to carry my childern there to eat.

Wow!..........The Kapok Tree Inn brings back many fond memories of family vacations to Florida during the 1960's and 1970's. Have had many a good meal at the Clearwater location. I still have pictures of me as a kid and as an adult eating at the Kapok. Bring back the Kapok Tree Inn like it was in the 1960's!

Instead of going to the prom the year I graduated from high school (in Tampa), my boyfriend took me to the Kapok Tree. Was a very beautiful place and a very magical evening. That was in June of 1972.

The Kapok Tree was a magical place to me and my siblings, which we visited the 2 times we vacationed in Florida in the 1960's. I specifically remember walking through the "zebra" room, and also the mirrored walls in the ladies room (how do I get out?).

I lived in Largo Florida in the early 70s. My Mom and Dad took me to the Kapok Tree Inn many times. I remember the food was very good and not too expensive. I always wondered what happened to the Inn...now I know.

I used to live in Madeira Beach, back in the 70's.I always wondered what became of the Kapok Tree restaurants? I visited the Madeira Bch, and the 2 Clearwater restaurants. They were wondeful, the food was good, service great. Plus, the rum drink in the Kapok glass was very good. It was so cool to take it home as well. These were good memories.

Our family had made the trek across the state to the Kapok Tree Inn in Sarasota a few times between 1970-1980 and loved it each time. I remember the very large hurricane glasses they served drinks in. Sorry to see that the restaurant had to close, but happy that the buildings & grounds are still there.

This website is great. I was a waitress at Kapok Tree in Clearwater then promoted as a Dining Room Mngr to the Madiera Beach Kapok Tree. The Vinoy across the street was my favorite place for Sunday Brunch. The resturant was always busy the old time waiter/waitresses got 1st priority on which dining room they wanted to work. The Grand Ballroom was the best followed by the Florida Room and the Balcony.Great place to work.
